A NEW CHAPTER FOR MID-SOUTH BUSINESSKenneth Burnett, Broker
The owner's next chapter

You built a business. Can it run without you?

Owner dependence is a useful place to begin preparing for a transition.

Not an actual client or transaction

Start with an ordinary Tuesday

If you took a month away, who would approve pricing, answer the biggest customer, and keep work moving? Those questions reveal where knowledge and relationships live. A profitable business can still depend heavily on its owner.

Make the invisible work visible

Write down the decisions only you make. Choose one repeatable decision and document the steps, the person who can own it, and the limits of their authority. Start small enough that you can test the handoff this month.

Prepare before you need to act

Clear processes and a capable team may give you more options, whether you sell, transfer ownership, or simply want more time back. They do not guarantee a valuation or a sale. Your next step is to identify the first dependency you can reduce.

One next step: explore the owner readiness check.
